Badtz-Maru (English Pattern)

Materials:

Simply Soft Yarn – white, black, yellow

3.5mm / E Crochet Hook

Tapestry Needle, Scissor, Stitch Marker,

Polyester Fiberfilling.

*** you could also cut felt (white/black) for the eyes

and the belly then sew them on the crochet doll, it will look pretty! ***

 

Terminology:

CH – Chain, ST – Stitch

SL – Slip Stitch, FO – Finish Off

SC – Single Crochet Stitch

DEC – Decrease by making 1 sc over two stitches

INC – Increase by making 2 sc over next 1 stitch

MR – Magic Ring (or chain 6 and slip stich to first chain to form a ring)

PATTERN

 

HEAD: (do not slip stitch, this is continues rounds)

        (1)   MR 8 using Single Crochet = total 8 st

        (2)   Do *INC* 8 times = total 16 sts

        (3)   Do *1sc, INC* 8 times = total 24 sts

        (4)   Do *1sc, 1sc, INC* 8 times = total 32 sts

        (5)   Do *1sc, 1sc, 1sc, INC* 8 times = total 40 sts

        (6)   ~ (14) Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 40 sts (for 9 rows)

(15) Do *1sc, 1sc, 1sc, DEC* 8 times = total 32 sts
(16) Do *1sc, 1sc, DEC* 8 times = total 24 sts
(17) Do * 1sc, DEC* 8 times = total 16 sts
F/O, stuff and hide tail inside the head.

 

HEAD SPIKES (x4): (continues rounds)

        (1)   MR 4 using Single Crochet = total 4 st

        (2)   Do *1sc, INC* 2 times = total 6 sts

        (3)   Do *1sc, 1sc, INC* 2 times = total 8 sts

        (4)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 8 sts, then F/O and just sew to head, no need to stuff.

 

*** You could just cut out white/black felt for the eyes for easier cheat. ***

Otherwise, crochet your eyes as indicated below
then embroidery the black dot with black yarn/needle:

With Yellow Yarn, crochet the beak then embroidery with black:

        (1)   MR 8 using Single Crochet = total 8 st

        (2)   Do *INC* 8 times = total 16 sts

        (3)   Do *1sc, INC* 8 times = total 24 sts

        (4)   Do *1sc, 1sc, INC* 8 times = total 32 sts

        (5)   ~ (9) Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 32 sts (for 5 rows)

(10) Do *1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, DEC* 4 times = total 28 sts
(11) Do *1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, DEC* 4 times = total 24 sts
(12) Do *1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, DEC* 4 times = total 20 sts
(13) Do * 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, DEC* 4 times = total 16 sts
F/O, stuff then sew the head and body together.

 

BELLY: (White yarn, crochet as following)

        (3)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 7 sts

        (4)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 7 sts

        (5)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 7 sts

        (6)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 7 sts

        (7)   Make only 1sc, 1sc, 1sc and then sl st and f/o.

 

FEET (x2): (Yellow yarn, continues rounds)

        (1)   MR 6 using Single Crochet = total 6 st

        (2)   Do *INC, 1sc, 1sc, INC, 1sc, 1sc* = total 8 sts

        (3)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 8 sts

        (4)   Make 1 sc in each stitch = total 8 sts

        (5)   Do *DEC, 1sc, 1sc, DEC, 1sc, 1sc* = total 6 sts,

and then sl st and f/o.

(do not stuff, flatten then sew)
